The part that stuck with me was the distinction between the real yes and the armor yes, I’ve given that second kind more times than I’d like to admit, and I don’t think I ever noticed someone naming it before. What I liked most is that the essay doesn’t pretend the games or the dancing dissolved the hierarchy. It just gave people a reason to stop performing it for a few hours. That feels more honest than most leadership writing, which usually wants trust to be a technique instead of something earned by looking foolish first.
